CHATTOGRAM, Sept 3: The New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chattogram Port have set two records in container handling in the past month of August under the operation and maintenenance of Chattogram Dry Dock Limited (CDDL), a subsidiary of the Bangladesh Navy.
According to CPA a press release, on August 31, NCT handled 5,061 TEUs containers in a single day, surpassing all previous records. This achievement has significantly improved efficiency and dynamism at the port, as announced by the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA).
In August, a total of 75,587 box containers were processed at NCT, totaling 122,517 TEUs, marking the highest container handling record in a month at Chattogram Port.
The CPA has seen significant improvements in the operations of berths 2, 3, 4, and 5 at the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) since CDDL assumed control on July 7. CDDL's disciplined management and experienced team have led to enhancements in ship arrivals, container delivery, customs appraisal, and gate operations.
The company has maintained a steady pace in port activities, ensuring smooth operations. Chattogram Port Secretary Md. Omar Faruk confirmed the record-breaking progress in container handling, both monthly and daily. These achievements have enhanced the port's capacity and efficiency.
Faruk believes CDDL's success will benefit the import-export sector and showcase Bangladesh's business-friendly infrastructure to global investors, potentially boosting economic growth.
Meanwhile, the government aims to finalise agreements in December this year to appoint at least one foreign operator for the Chattogram Port's terminal among the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT), Laldia Container Terminal, and Bay Terminal.
Since Chattogram Dry Dock Limited (CDDL) took over the operation of the NCT, the company has increased container handling by about 30% within just one month - a significant achievement for both CDDL and the port.
The Shipping and Logistics Online Desk has been set up by Magnetism Tech Limited in collaboration with the Chattogram Port Authority, at Gate-4 of the NCT.
The change of operator at NCT, CDDL's performance proved that operational improvements were possible through change.
International tender process is currently underway for NCT, aimed at bringing in technical expertise and global operational standards.
