Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed Oikkoboddho Shikharthi Jote has launched an ambitious 36-point reform manifesto for the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections, promising comprehensive changes within 12 months if elected.

At a press conference on Monday outside Madhu's Canteen, Assistant General Secretary candidate Mohiuddin Khan unveiled the "12 Months, 36 Reforms" plan, addressing critical student concerns ranging from housing to academic governance.

Housing topped the agenda, with the panel pledging guaranteed dormitory seats for first-year students and temporary allowances while new halls are under construction. Monthly financial support would be provided in partnership with private institutions to fill accommodation gaps.

Safety measures, particularly for female students, are a major focus. Proposals include relaxed entry restrictions for women's halls, enhanced transportation security, and increased female representation in proctorial teams.

Dedicated facilities for student mothers--breastfeeding rooms, childcare corners, and flexible maternity leave--also form part of the plan.

Administrative reforms aim to streamline university processes. The manifesto proposes a "paperless registrar office" to reduce bureaucratic red tape and a one-stop service for students pursuing overseas education. Food quality initiatives include nutritionist-designed menus, quarterly testing, and special meal voucher schemes for financially disadvantaged students.

Some of the most controversial proposals target what the panel calls "fascist collaborators" within university structures. The manifesto calls for the complete abolition of banned Chhatra League practices like "guestroom" and "massroom" cultures and seeks justice for the July 15 attacks and historical killings of students Samya, Mofazzal, and Abu Bakar.

Electoral reforms aim to institutionalize DUCSU elections within the academic calendar, ensuring annual democratic processes rather than irregular contests.

The panel's comprehensive approach addresses infrastructure, governance, safety, and social justice through clear targets and specific timelines, though successful implementation will depend on administrative cooperation and student support.
