A Dhaka court has ordered content creator Tawhid Afridi, son of My TV chairman Nasir Uddin Sathi, to be sent to jail after the completion of his remand in connection with the murder of Asadul Haque Babu during July Movement in Jatrabari.

On Saturday, Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piyash rejected Afridi's bail plea and ordered his imprisonment.

Afridi had been placed on a five-day remand on August 25, after being arrested in Barishal a day earlier.

According to the case documents, Afridi allegedly used his social media influence to oppose July Movement, delivering live speeches in support of the government, inciting celebrities and other content creators against the protests and threatening dissenters.

Prosecutors claimed his activities led to ruling party activists and law enforcement opening fire, resulting in Babu's death.

Afridi denied the allegations in court. He is the 11th accused in the case, while his father, Nasir Uddin Sathi, who was arrested earlier this month, is the 22nd accused.

The case was filed on August 30 last year by Babu's father, naming former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 24 others as defendants.
