Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) has arrested seven alleged smugglers and seized a large number of goods along with a cargo boat bound for Myanmar near Karnaphuli Channel area under Patenga police station area in Chattogram district on Friday.
Acting on a tip-off, coast guard officials conducted a raid and seized 620 bags of pulses, 10 bags of ginger, 480 pieces of lungi and 400 pieces of saree products while smuggling to Myanmar.
The estimated market value of the seized goods is around Tk 51.67 lakh.
Bangladesh Coast Guard East Zone Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed the incident through a press release and said that the arrested individuals were handed over to relevant authorities for legal proceedings.
