The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed over a Bangladeshi farmer to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) during a flag meeting at the Kathuli border area of Meherpur's sadar upazila early Friday.

The meeting, held around 12:50 AM, was attended by a six-member BGB team led by Subedar Mizanur Rahman, Company Commander of Kathuli BGB Camp, while the BSF side was led by Assistant Commandant Ansh Kumar, Company Commander of Routhbari BSF Camp.

The BSF returned Iqbal Hossain, 38, a farmer from the Kathuli area, who had been detained on Thursday afternoon after allegedly crossing the zero line while cutting grass in Kutubpur field—approximately 100 yards inside Indian territory.

According to BGB sources, the crossing appeared to be unintentional, likely caused by unclear boundary markings in the agricultural zone.

Following coordination between border authorities, the situation was resolved through the standard flag meeting procedure. Iqbal was handed over to the BGB at around 1:00 AM and later reunited with his family.

Such incidents underscore the ongoing challenges faced by border communities, where accidental crossings during routine farming or grazing activities remain frequent. Regular flag meetings between BGB and BSF continue to play a key role in de-escalating tensions and facilitating quick resolutions to such matters.
