At least 34 people have died in flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall in the Himalayan region of Indian-administered Kashmir, a senior government official said Thursday.

Pankaj Kumar Sharma, District Commissioner of Kishtwar, told AFP, “We have recovered 34 bodies and rescued 35 injured people so far. There is a possibility of more casualties as search and rescue operations continue.”

The deadly torrents, fueled by intense rains, swept through a mountain village, destroying homes and cutting off access to affected areas. Rescue teams are working to reach isolated communities amid damaged infrastructure and ongoing weather risks.
