Ten migrant workers have died in Kuwait after consuming toxic illicit alcohol, with several others in critical condition, according to reports from Arab Times Online on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh’s Block 4 in the Ahmadi Governorate late Sunday night. Around 15 individuals fell severely ill after drinking the contaminated substance and were rushed to Farwaniya and Adan hospitals—10 later died.

Preliminary investigations by Kuwaiti authorities indicate the deaths were caused by acute alcohol poisoning. A full inquiry is underway to trace the source and distribution network of the illegal liquor.

All victims were foreign laborers employed by private companies in the area, the Interior Ministry confirmed, though their nationalities have not yet been disclosed.

The sale and consumption of alcohol are prohibited in Kuwait under Islamic law, but illicit trade persists, particularly in areas with large expatriate populations. This tragic incident has reignited concerns over the dangers of unregulated alcohol and the need for stronger enforcement.

Security forces have launched a crackdown, and further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
