Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has reportedly pushed 23 people, including women and a child, into Bangladesh through the Ghagra border in Panchagarh.

The incident took place late Wednesday night (August 13) through sub-pillar No. 2 of main border pillar No. 757, under the jurisdiction of Nilphamari’s 56 BGB Battalion, at Ghagra in Haribhanga union of the upazila.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) later detained the individuals and handed them over to Sadar police station.

According to BGB and police, local residents initially apprehended the group inside Bangladeshi territory and brought them to the Haribhanga Union Parishad premises. BGB later took them to Ghagra border outpost for questioning.

Among the 23 detained individuals are 13 women, 9 men, and one child. Preliminary information suggests they are residents of different districts including Jessore, Satkhira, Lalmonirhat, and Narail.

Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Hil Zaman stated, “The 23 individuals detained in connection with a push-in have been handed over to us. We are verifying their identities and contacting their families. Once confirmed to be Bangladeshi citizens, proper legal procedures will be followed.”

In the past three months alone, BSF has reportedly pushed 166 people into Bangladesh across various points along the Panchagarh border in 11 separate incidents.
