BNP is acceptable to all because of its moderate politics, BNP Standing Committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan has said.

"There are many types of political groups in Bangladesh, but BNP is a moderate party. That's why I believe BNP is acceptable to everyone," he said at a discussion marking the 101st birth anniversary of Mashiur Rahman Jadu Mia on Friday.

Moyeen Khan added, "Right now, one of the biggest weaknesses of democracy around the world is the growing influence of money in politics. Still, as they say in Britain, 'Democracy is bad, but other systems are worse.' We still haven't found any better system than democracy, even though it has many flaws."

He said, "No matter what faults or good sides BNP has, one thing is clear: BNP does not believe in the politics of revenge."

"That is why some people used to joke that BNP is a party of gentlemen, so they cannot do anything. We replied, we don't want to do that; we want to remain gentlemen," Moyeen said.

Talking about history, he said, "After independence, a new political situation was created. At that time, martyred President Ziaur Rahman took the responsibility to rebuild the country after the Sepoy Revolution, with the support of the people, just as he had done on March 26, 1971."

Speaking about Jadu Mia's role in politics, Moyeen Khan said, "Jadu Mia was active after the Sepoy Revolution. President Ziaur Rahman himself attended most of the meetings. The main focus of all discussions was how to lead Bangladesh towards democracy. We are still discussing that same issue today."

He added, "Jadu Mia played a very important role. America and other countries were watching Bangladesh's politics closely through their diplomats. Jadu Mia was part of that observation. Through him, America was studying the style of politics here to see whether Bangladesh was truly moving towards democracy."

Paying tribute to Jadu Mia for his contribution, Dr. Moyeen Khan said, "Mashiur Rahman Jadu Mia worked together with martyred President Ziaur Rahman to present a democratic system to Bangladesh."
