A woman was electrocuted while attempting to operate a water pump to provide drinking water for livestock at her residence in Khoksa Upazila of Kushtia on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Sajeda Khatun, 55, wife of Abdul Mannan, a resident of Mukshidpur Village in the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khoksa Police Station Sheikh Moynul Islam said that Sajeda entered the family cowshed to switch on an electric motor at around 11 am and accidentally came into contact with a live wire, which left her critically injured.

Locals then rescued her and took to Kushtia General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared the woman dead upon arrival.
Police are investigating the incident, the OC added.

The family lives near the Gorai River's char area, where access to safe and modern electrical infrastructure is often inadequate.

Relatives of the deceased and locals have urged the authorities to address hazardous wiring conditions in rural areas and raise awareness about electrical safety. They stressed that outdated installations and poor maintenance continue to endanger lives in remote communities.
