The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has expressed interest in providing technical assistance to the country's capital market for achieving sustainable reform and development.
An ADB delegation shows the interest at a meeting with officials of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) on Thursday.
BSEC Chairman Khondoker Rashed Maqsood, ADB Bangladesh Resident Mission Senior Financial Sector Specialist Manohari Gunawardena and Senior Project Officer (Financial Sector) Mohammad Rashed Al Hasan, BSEC Director Abul Kalam, BSEC Joint Director Jasaid Muhammad Golam Maula and BSEC Deputy Director Mohammad Asif Iqbal were present in the meeting.
BSEC Director and Spokesperson Abul Kalam said various aspects of the overall development of the country's capital market were discussed in the meeting.
They discussed the reform plan and its implementation in the country's capital market, modernization of the capital market, modernization of BSEC's surveillance system, development and implementation of the ERP system.
They discussed issues related to increasing transparency, accountability and good governance in the capital market, ensuring good governance of companies by improving the skills and capabilities of the independent directors of listed companies, development of the bond market.
Sustainable financing, commodity exchange and derivative products, establishing the capital market as a field for long-term financing, listing of domestic, foreign and multinational companies with good fundamentals in the country's capital market, updating the existing laws of the country's capital market also figured prominently in the meeting.
