Banned party leader hacked to death in Khulna

One individual was shot and hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Khulna district on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Sheikh Shahadat Hossain, a regional leader of the banned political party, Purbo Banglar Communist Party.

According to police, Shahadat was chased and attacked by a group of assailants near ‘Sangeeta Cinema Hall’ in the city at around 9 PM.

Later, locals rushed him to Khulna Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead at around 9:30 PM.

Sonadanga Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Shariful Islam confirmed the incident.

Shahadat had been released on bail earlier this year after serving over 15 years in jail.  He had since been living a normal life, added the OC.

Shahadat was accused in a number of murder cases, including one involving the killing of two policemen.
