Bangladesh reported two more deaths from dengue in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday morning, bringing the total number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease to 81 this year, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Both of the latest deaths were recorded in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) area.
During the same period, 386 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, raising the total number of confirmed cases in 2025 to 20,702.
The surge in infections continues to put pressure on the healthcare system, with 1,289 patients currently undergoing treatment in various hospitals nationwide.
The highest number of new cases was reported in Barishal Division, which logged 106 infections. Outside city corporation areas, Chattogram Division recorded 64 cases and Dhaka Division 62. Within city corporation limits, Dhaka South City Corporation reported 49 new cases, while Dhaka North City Corporation had 29. Other regions also saw new infections, including 45 in Rajshahi Division, 23 in Khulna Division, five in Mymensingh Division, and three in Rangpur Division.
Dengue remains a serious public health concern in the country.
In 2024, the disease claimed 575 lives, with over 101,000 reported cases and 100,040 recoveries, according to DGHS data.
