GOURIPUR, MYMENSINGH, July 24: An archaeological team recently visited two historically significant sites -Killa Bokainagar and Killa Tajpur - in Gouripur Upazila of Mymensingh, to investigate and document ancient relics for preservation.
The sites, long considered important for their archaeological value, are under review by the Department of Archaeology for urgent conservation status. A formal directive was issued instructing a field-level archaeological survey and submission of a report with expert opinions.
The survey team included Sabina Yasmin, Field Officer of the Dhaka-Mymensingh Archaeology Division; Md. Lokman Hossain, Surveyor, Department of Archaeology; and Shuvro Pal, official photographer.
They were assisted on-site by Kazi Abdullah Al Amin, President of Gauripur Press Club; Anwar Hossain Shahin, local writer and researcher; and Raihan Uddin Sarkar, local heritage enthusiast.
The team conducted day-long fieldwork at several prominent historical landmarks including two forts built by Pathan warrior Osman Khan at Bokainagar, a royal mosque from the era of Emperor Aurangzeb, Basabari Zamindar Palace, the Kali Temple, Gosai Bari, a historic road constructed by Yugal Kishore Roy Chowdhury, and the Sannyasi Math (monastery).
At Killa Tajpur, the team visited the Dewan Bari (landlord's residence) and the ancient mint (Takshal), both connected to the memory of Bibi Sokhina, a historical figure of local importance.
