Dengue claims 4 more lives, 319 hospitalized in 24hrs

Four more people have died from dengue between 8:00 AM Tuesday and 8:00 AM Wednesday, while an additional 319 patients were admitted to hospitals due to the mosquito-borne virus. 

The data was released in a press statement on Wednesday by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the statement, the new admissions include 89 patients in Barisal Division, 38 in Chattogram, 59 in Dhaka Division outside the city corporation areas, 29 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 61 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 9 in Mymensingh, 30 in Rajshahi and 4 in Rangpur Division.

In the same 24-hour period, 331 dengue patients were released from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries this year to 16,960. 

DGHS further reported that since January, a total of 18,345 people have been hospitalized with dengue across the country and the virus has claimed 69 lives so far in 2025.

For comparison, in 2024, Bangladesh recorded a total of 101,214 dengue cases and 575 deaths. 

The year before, in 2023, the country faced its worst outbreak on record, with 321,179 hospitalizations and 1,705 deaths caused by dengue.
