Amid controversy over the postponement of the ongoing HSC examinations due to the deadly BAF training aircraft crash at Milestone College in Uttara and student's violent protest around the Secretariat, the government on Tuesday decided to remove Higher and Secondary Education Division Senior Secretary Siddique Zobair from his position.

In a post from his verified Facebook account, Information and Broad-casting Adviser Mahfuj Alam on Tuesday said that the Education Ministry's Higher and Secondary Education Division Senior Secretary has already been removed.

Students in Dhaka and Chattogram staged road blockade and protests on Tuesday demanding resignation of Education Adviser Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar and Senior Secretary Siddiq Zobair, accusing them of mishandling recent HSC exam decisions amid national trauma on Milestone College incident.

Mahfuj Alam claimed that the government is committed to accepting any fair demand.

"A committee is being formed to conduct a full investigation into the Milestone tragedy. The investigation committee will be formed by coordinating the six-point demands of the students," Mahfuj said in his post.

However, the Ministry of Public Administration has not yet issued any notification in this regards.

A Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) 1983 batch officer, Higher and Secondary Education Division Senior Secretary Siddique Zobair has been serving in the ministry as senior secretary since last seven months on a contractual appointment. He's claimed to be a deprived officer during the previous government's tenure.

This interim government has given him a promotion to the rank of a secretary with retrospective effect considering him a deprived officer.
