Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, the prime accused in the brutal murder of scrap trader Sohag near Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka, has confessed to his involvement in the crime.

On Sunday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubur Rahman recorded Mohin’s confessional statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, following a request by the investigating officer, Kotwali Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Moniruzzaman.

Mohin was produced before the court after completing two phases of remand; five days granted on July 10 and another five days on July 15.

During the hearing, he voluntarily agreed to give a confessional statement.

Following this, the court ordered him to be sent to jail.

On July 9, 39-year-old scrap trader Lal Chand alias Sohag was brutally murdered in front of Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital. He was hacked, beaten and bludgeoned to death with a stone.

His elder sister later filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station in this regard.

The police have also filed a separate case under the Arms Act.
