Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was hospitalized after collapsing twice on stage while delivering speech at Suhrawardy Udyan on Saturday afternoon.
According to party sources, he has been taken to a private hospital in the capital for medical care.
Party volunteers and on-site medical personnel tried to offer him first aid, but he reportedly declined treatment at the moment.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman insisted on completing his speech and, despite being visibly unwell, delivered his closing remarks from the stage while seated and holding the microphone.
Following the rally, he was taken to a private hospital in Dhaka for further evaluation.
Jamaat’s media wing confirmed that his blood pressure and sugar levels were stable, but he was moved to the hospital as a precaution.
The party has requested prayers for his recovery and expressed gratitude for the concern shown by supporters and well-wishers.
Meanwhile, BNP's media cell has confirmed that Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir plans to visit Dr. Rahman at the hospital to inquire about his condition.
