Acting Chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Tarique Rahman has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran BNP leader and four-time Member of Parliament Abdul Mannan Talukder, who passed away on Friday at the age of 89.

In a condolence message, Tarique Rahman described Mannan as a respected and popular figure in Sirajganj-3 constituency (Raiganj-Tarash), praising his unwavering commitment to the ideals of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and the nationalist philosophy.

"Abdul Mannan dedicated his political life to public service and played a crucial role in building and strengthening the BNP's organizational structure in the Sirajganj region," Rahman said. "As a parliamentarian, his contributions to the development of his constituency were significant and lasting."

Mannan, who breathed his last at his residence in Dhaka at around 11 am, had long served as a key political figure in the party. He was a member of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's advisory council, an executive member of the Sirajganj district BNP, and previously held the position of district BNP president.

He was elected to parliament in four consecutive general elections—in 1991, February 1996, June 1996, and 2001.

Tarique Rahman offered prayers for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
