BNP slams deteriorating law and order in Ctg

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Friday voiced grave concern over the worsening law and order situation in Chattogram, alleging rising incidents of extortion and false cases targeting ordinary citizens and businesspeople.

In an official statement signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the party accused local miscreants—allegedly backed by ruling party elements—of harassing the public through fabricated cases and criminal activities.

“The BNP is deeply worried about the deteriorating situation in Chattogram, where false cases and extortion are being used to intimidate citizens,” the statement read.

Calling on the business community and general public to unite against what it described as lawlessness, the BNP urged local authorities to take immediate and effective measures to restore order.

The party emphasized Chattogram's strategic importance as the country’s key port city and commercial hub, stating that peace and stability in the region are vital for national trade and economic growth.

“Chattogram is the second most important city after Dhaka. If the current state of extortion and false accusations continues, it will cripple business confidence and hurt the national economy,” the BNP warned.

The party concluded by demanding urgent steps to safeguard innocent businesspeople and restore a safe environment for commerce and daily life.
