35 univs to join DU's Young Writers Conference 2025

Dhaka University (DU) Young Columnists Forum is set to host the 'Young Writers' Conference – 2025,' aiming at promoting the vision of 'Guiding Tomorrow Through the Pens of Today.'"

The event with The Daily Observer as media partners in this initiative, is scheduled to kick-off on Saturday at the university's Teacher Student Center (TSC) premises, featuring participants from nearly 35 universities across the country.

Daylong event aims to nurture analytical thinking and foster intellectual growth amongst Bangladesh's youth.

"This is not just an event, but an initiative to foster a thoughtful generation," said forum representatives during Friday's press conference.

Since establishment on 23 July 2018, the TSC-based organisation has facilitated publication of thousands of columns and opinion pieces in national dailies whilst training student columnists in writing skills.

Vice Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan will inaugurate the conference, with Chief Guest Adilur Rahman Khan, Adviser to Industries and Housing ministries. Distinguished speakers include Dr Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education), and Shafiqul Alam, Senior Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.

Among the special guests will be Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration); Professor M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Treasure; Saifuddin Ahmed, the university's Proctor; Professor Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts; and Mohammad Azam, Director General of Bangla Academy, along with many other esteemed faculty members of DU.

Eight key segments comprise the conference: exhibition, mime show on July Uprising, seminar titled "The July Uprising: A Bloody Chapter of Tyranny's Fall," career panel discussion, writing competition on July memories, special quiz on July revolution, launch of biannual magazine "Sarosij," and closing ceremony.
