Resolving border friction key for mutual trust: Jaishankar

NEW DELHI, Jul 14: Resolving friction along their border and the ability to maintain peace are fundamental for mutual trust between India and China, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar told his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Monday.

The neighbours have made "good progress" over the last nine months for the normalisation of relations, he said, adding that it was key for restrictive trade measures and roadblocks to be avoided.

This is Jaishankar's first visit to China after the ties between the two neighbouring countries came under severe strain following the 2020 military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

The External Affairs minister also said that, as reported by PTI, India and China's bilateral relationship requires both nations to take a far-sighted approach to their ties.

In a meeting with Wang, Jaishankar said that mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity should be the basis for handling India-China relations.

Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Monday that Beijing and New Delhi should work towards mutual trust and "win-win" cooperation, after talks with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, state news agency Xinhua reported.

China and India should "adhere to the direction of good-neighborliness and friendship" and "find a way for mutual respect and trust, peaceful coexistence, common development and win-win cooperation", Wang said, according to Xinhua.    �"AGENCIES
