US-BD Tariffs Talks

2 countries agree on several issues

The second day of the three-day Bangladesh-US tariff talks has ended. The current and future trade dynamics between the two countries were presented and discussed. The two countries have largely agreed on several issues. Some issues remain unresolved.

Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar gave this information. He said that the third day of talks will begin today at 9:00am Washington time.

The Deputy Press Secretary said that a notable aspect of the second day of talks was that Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin held a private meeting with US Trade Representative Ambassador Jameson Greer. Greer is a very important person of ministerial rank in the Trump administration. 

In addition to discussions on tariffs, issues related to trade and interests of the two countries were discussed in a cordial atmosphere. The Commerce Adviser highlighted the overall situation in Bangladesh in the discussion.

Bangladesh is committed to increasing its exports to the United States as well as imports, which has already been started. Bangladesh expects fairness in terms of tariffs. The environment should be competitive for Bangladesh. Greer assured overall cooperation.

Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin led the discussion on behalf of Bangladesh. National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman was connected virtually from Dhaka. Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, Additional Secretary Dr Nazneen Kawsar Chowdhury were also present directly. High-ranking government officials and experts were connected virtually.
