KHULNA, Jul 11: National Citizen Party Convener (NCP) Nahid Islam on Friday evening has demanded the abolition of what they termed the 'Mujibist Constitution' and the formulation of a new constitution.

He urged that the current constitution, shaped by Mujibism, cannot prevent midnight voting or suppress one-party rule like BAKSAL. Therefore, he called for the declaration of a new July Charter before August 5.

This announcement came during a street rally held at Shibbari intersection in Khulna on Friday evening, as part of the party's nationwide July March campaign.

Emphasizing the rising public consciousness, he stated," The leaders of the uprising are still on the streets. Please support us. You will not be disappointed.

Drawing on the context of the July mass Uprising, Nahid further said, "The Hasina government has shot a thousand people, injured more than 10,000. Some of my brothers have lost their eyes, some of lost their legs and damaged other parts of their bodies.

The BBC reported that Hasina herself gave the order for the shootings, saying ex-IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun confessed all crimes of Hasina and agreed as the prime witness of this mass killing, he avowed.

He also announced the NCP to be the fixed candidates of all six constituencies for the upcoming elections.
During the street rally, other speakers also expressed their optimism that by electing NCP candidates in the upcoming general elections, a new Bangladesh could be built.

The rally was held under the slogans 'National Citizen Party's July March' and 'Bringing the Message of Change to Khulna.'
Key speakers included NCP member secretary Akhtar Hossain, NCP Central leaders Nasir Patwari, Tasnim Zara, Hasanat Abdullah, Sarjis Alam and Nusrat Tabassum, among others.

In their speeches, they reiterated the need to abolish the Mujibist Constitution, claiming it fails to ensure electoral integrity or democratic freedom.

They again emphasized the urgency of announcing the July Declaration before August 5.
Speakers also highlighted that the people of Khulna have historically stood against extortionists and corrupt individuals and will continue to do so in the future.

At around 6:15pm, NCP leaders arrived at Hotel Tiger Garden in Khulna's Shibbari area. After Maghrib prayers, they were welcomed at the rally stage with national flags and flowers.

The street rally eventually turned into a full-scale gathering. Later, the NCP leaders proceeded to the People's Circle in the industrial area of Khalishpur, where another rally will be held tonight.

The Central NCP leaders also meet the parents of Shaheed Sakib Raihan, a martyr remembered in the context of the July Uprising.
