Corruption, extortion won’t be tolerated: Nahid Islam

Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), took a firm stance against intimidation tactics, indirectly responding to BNP’s claim of having millions of supporters.

Speaking at a rally in Jashore on the 11th day of the July foot march, he declared that the NCP stands with the people, seeking justice—not fear.

He stressed that corruption will not be tolerated by the party under any circumstances. “Even if our own leaders or activists are involved in corruption, the party will take strict action against them,” Nahid said. “Our future movement will be dedicated to fighting corruption and extortion.”

The rally, organized by the NCP Jashore district branch at Judge Court Eidgah Mor, also featured party secretary Akhtar Hossain, who urged that reform discussions should remain at the negotiation table rather than forcing people onto the streets. He further emphasized that while Bangladesh desires friendly relations with India, it will never accept any form of bullying.

Chaired by northern chief organizer Sarjis Alam, the event included speeches from southern chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah, Dr. Tasnim Zara, central leader Khaled Saifullah Jewel, and other local leaders.

Earlier in the day, party leaders met with families of those killed and injured during the July uprising of Shahid Jashore at a hotel near Char Khambar Mor. After Friday prayers at the local Model Mosque, the foot march proceeded along Mujib Road to the rally site, drawing enthusiastic participation from local supporters.

Following the rally, the march continued towards Khulna.
