Newly-appointed Jatiya Party Secretary General and Dhaka Metropolitan North leader Barrister Shamim Haider Patwary claimed that the grassroots activists remain firmly aligned with party Chairman Golam Mohammad Quader dismissing speculations about his possible removal.
"The Jatiya Party has fragmented seven times in the past due to the dishonesty of some senior leaders and presidium members," Patwary said. "But the Trinamool [grassroots] leaders and workers have never strayed from the mainstream. They have always remained loyal to the Jatiya Party," Patwary said at the Jatiya Party Chairman's office auditorium in Banani on Tuesday.
Referring to a major show of support held on June 25, he added, "On that day, leaders and workers came to Dhaka to express their unwavering support for GM Quader. The party's future course was determined then and there."
Addressing a central concern within the party, Patwary praised Quader's personal integrity and political record remarking, "GM Quader's honesty and transparency are beyond question. He served in two important ministries for five years and yet not a single allegation of corruption could be brought against him." He continued, "Even though he openly criticized the previous Awami League government as authoritarian, no corruption case could be filed against him despite repeated attempts."
Patwary emphasized that Quader's rise in politics was due to personal merit, not familial advantage.
