Social Welfare Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid today said that the nation will long remember the sacrifice of children and women martyred during the student-led July Uprising of 2024, which led to the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
She made the remarks while visiting the families of Riya Gop, a child shot dead in Nayamati, and Sumaiya, a housewife killed in Mizmiji, Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj city.
“We won’t let the memory of the women and children martyred in the July uprising fade away,” said Sharmeen, who also serves as the adviser for women and children affairs. “Their stories will be compiled and preserved. They will not be forgotten.”
She added that the state would ensure recognition and rights for those killed in the uprising, noting that Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Zahidul Islam Miah is already taking steps in that regard.
“I have spoken to the families to understand their struggles and challenges. As part of the Ministry of Social Welfare, I will do everything within my power to support them,” she assured.
Several senior officials, including the Narayanganj DC, were present during the visit.
