8 injured in Dinajpur gas cylinder fire

Eight people were injured after a gas cylinder caught fire during repairs at a house in Dinajpur Sadar Upazila on Saturday afternoon.

The injured are identified as housewife Rubina, 40, technician Riyad, 20, Molab, 30, Amisha, 45, Shahjahan Kabir, 20, Shirin Islam, Sazo, 13 and Sajib, 25.
According to police, Rubina bought a new gas cylinder at Kalitola area from a shop after the existing one ran out. The shop owner sent technician Riyad to inspect it when the replacement cylinder failed to function.

The cylinder suddenly caught fire during the repair work at 3:45 PM, leaving Rubina and Riyad severely burnt on the spot. Hearing their screams, six others rushed to the spot and were also injured.

Later, locals rescued them and took to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Riyad was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment due to the absence of a dedicated burn unit at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.

Kotwali Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Mahbub Alam confirmed the incident.
