Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has approved a budget of Tk 388.29 crore for the 2025–26 fiscal year, reflecting a 7.71% increase compared to the previous year.
The announcement was confirmed on Wednesday by Mohammad Toufiqul Islam, Acting Director of BAU’s Public Relations and Publications Office.
The syndicate meeting, held on June 30 and chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. AK Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan, included the presentation of revised 2024–25 budget and the proposed 2025–26 budget by Professor Dr. Humayun Kabir, who is currently serving as the acting Treasurer.
Although the university had submitted a demand-based budget proposal of Tk 458.27 crore, University Grants Commission (UGC) approved a ceiling of Tk 388.29 crore. The budget was subsequently restructured to align with UGC’s ceiling.
Out of the approved Tk 388.29 crore budget, Tk 374.99 crore will be provided as a government grant through UGC, while Tk 13.30 crore is expected to come from the university’s own income sources.
According to financial breakdown, a significant portion of the budget will go toward salaries and allowances, including special benefits, amounting to Tk 183.67 crore. General goods and service support has been allocated Tk 53.59 crore, while Tk 9.20 crore is designated for repair and maintenance. Pensions and retirement benefits, including special support for retirees, will receive Tk 117.50 crore. The university has also earmarked Tk 15.33 crore for research grants, Tk 0.75 crore for primary healthcare support, Tk 2.82 crore for other forms of grants, and Tk 5.45 crore under capital expenditure.
Additionally, the revised (recast) budget for the current 2024–25 fiscal year has been approved at Tk 379.19 crore.
