Two die from snakebites in Narayanganj, Jashore

A young man and a girl died from snakebites in separate incidents in two districts - Narayanganj and Jashore.

SONARGAON, NARAYANGANJ: A man was killed after being bitten by a snake in Sonargaon Upazila of the district on Thursday night.

The incident took place in Nilkanda Rupnagar Village under Sanamandi Union of the upazila.

Deceased Md Shakil, 26, son of Musa Mia of the village, was an auto-rickshaw driver by profession.

It was known that a snake came out of a bush bit Shakil at around 8 pm while he was returning home on foot, which left him critically injured. 

The family members took him to a snake charmer first, and then, shifted him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared the youth dead at around 1:30 am on Friday.  

JASHORE: A girl died and her mother was injured from snakebites in Jhikargacha Upazila of Jashore District on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Sumaiya Khatun, 11, daughter of Imdadul Haque, a resident of Bakra Mathpara Village under the upazila. She was a second grader of a local madrasa.

According to the deceased's family sources, a venomous snake bit Sumaiya and her mother Khadija Khatun, 32, while they were sleeping on the floor of their house at around 1 am, which left the duo critically injured.

The family members rescued them and took to Jashore General Hospital at around 4 am.

Later on, Sumaiya died there at around 7 am while undergoing treatment.
