DSCC administrator returns to office after 43 days

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md. Shahjahan Mia came back to the corporation’s headquarters, Nagar Bhaban, on Thursday after being away for 43 days.

He reached the office around 1:30 PM.

When he spoke to reporters upon his arrival, the administrator said, “We don’t want to dwell on the past. We want to move forward. Several priority tasks lie ahead, including finalizing the upcoming budget.”

He announced that all DSCC departments would restart full operations today and encouraged all engineers and officials to return to their duties without delay.

Several officials from the engineering department were also at Nagar Bhaban during his visit. At the same time, Arif Chowdhury and Belayet Hossain Babu, leaders of a faction of the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Union that supports BNP leader Ishraque Hossain, welcomed the administrator and promised full cooperation with the city authorities.

“BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has instructed all residents and supporters to fully cooperate with the administrator and the engineering division for the greater good of Dhaka,” Arif Chowdhury told reporters.

It is important to note that on May 14, supporters of Ishraque Hossain began a sit-in protest at Nagar Bhaban under the banner of “Dhakabashi,” demanding that he be given the responsibilities of the DSCC mayor. Since then, the administrator had been unable to enter the office.

Last Sunday, Ishraque’s supporters announced a partial suspension of their protest, allowing daily public services to resume. However, they still opposed the return of the administrator and the engineering division at that time.
