Attack on Iran’s nuclear facility a ‘dangerous precedent’: China

Fu Cong, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, strongly condemned Israel's recent strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, describing them as a "dangerous precedent" with the potential to cause severe consequences. Addressing an emergency session of the UN Security Council, Fu urged Israel to immediately halt its military actions to avoid further worsening the already tense situation in the Middle East.

"The attacks on Iran's nuclear infrastructure by Israel have set a highly dangerous precedent," Fu said "Such moves risk spiraling out of control and could endanger not only regional stability but also global peace and security."
Fu expressed serious concern over the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, warning that heightened tensions between two key regional powers-especially when involving nuclear-related sites-could trigger a much broader and more devastating confrontation.

He called on the international community to respond promptly and responsibly, highlighting China's commitment to peaceful resolutions through diplomacy and multilateral dialogue. Fu reaffirmed Beijing's adherence to the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter and the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

The Chinese envoy also cautioned that ongoing military operations targeting or taking place near sensitive nuclear facilities could jeopardize global non-proliferation efforts and erode trust in international agreements designed to curb the spread of nuclear weapons.

Fu's remarks came during a UN Security Council meeting convened to address the latest escalation following Israeli airstrikes on several Iranian sites, including an alleged strike on the Khondab Heavy Water Research Reactor.

In response to the rising tensions, numerous UN member states echoed China's concerns, calling for immediate de-escalation, restraint, and a return to diplomatic engagement.
