BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday accused Indian policymakers of trying to "rehabilitate" the Awami League, which he called a "fascist" party.
Speaking to journalists in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna, Rizvi said, "Indian policymakers cannot accept Sheikh Hasina's downfall. After Dr Muhammad Yunus and Tarique Rahman met in London, the neighbouring country started hatching conspiracies against country."
Rizvi visited senior BNP leader Abu Taher Pramanik also known as Taher Thakur, who has been sick and living in hardship.
On behalf of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and the BNP family, Rizvi gave financial help for Taher's medical treatment.
Rizvi also said BNP is against the system of proportional representation in elections.
He stated that the people of Bangladesh have started moving towards democracy, but the journey is not complete. "Conspiracies are still going on. Many BNP leaders and activists, both local and national, are still missing. Many are being harassed with false cases and arrests," he added.
He said the time under the Awami League was a "fascist era" and very frightening. "Now we can speak freely. But since the meeting between Dr Yunus and Tarique, the neighbouring country has restarted its conspiracies," Rizvi claimed.
He also accused the Awami League government of stealing public money for 16 years and sending it to countries like Canada and Malaysia.
"Sheikh Hasina tried to control the media and run smear campaigns, but she cannot silence 180 million people. Only the people will choose who rules this country," he said.
