Police have arrested two snatchers in connection with the assault and robbery of a female passenger in Ashulia union under Savar upazila.
The arrests were confirmed by Md. Shahinur Kabir, Additional Superintendent of Police, Dhaka District, during a press conference held at Ashulia Police Station on Friday afternoon.
The arrested individuals are Md. Mintu Pramanik, 38, son of the late Namaz Ali alias Newaz Ali alias Abdur Razzak of Dori Moishmari village, Singra Police Station, Natore District, and Md. Yusuf Ali, 28, son of Golzar Rahman of the same area.
During the press conference, police reported that around 1:30 AM on Monday, four unknown assailants stopped a rickshaw on Ghorapir Mazar Road in Ashulia's Baishmile area. They pulled a female passenger from the rickshaw, assaulted her indiscriminately, and then fled after snatching 1500 Taka in cash, an Android mobile phone, and a feature phone.
Following the incident, a case was filed at Ashulia Police Station. A diligent police team, utilizing information technology, conducted an operation and apprehended Mintu Pramanik and Yusuf Ali, who were involved in the snatching.
Subsequently, the stolen mobile phones were recovered from them, and a sharp knife and a stick were seized.
Md. Shahinur Kabir, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Dhaka District, said that arrested Mintu Pramanik has 8 cases of robbery and dacoity filed against him in various police stations across Natore, Naogaon, and Bogura.
Yusuf Ali also faces 3 cases of robbery and dacoit in various police stations, including those in Natore District. Efforts are ongoing to arrest other involved suspects and recover additional evidence, the ASP added.
