Russia has strongly condemned Israel’s recent attacks on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, labeling them illegal and warning that they could trigger a global crisis.
Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described the strikes as “absolutely unacceptable” and a violation of international law that endangers global security.
Zakharova expressed particular concern for the safety of Russian personnel working at the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran, emphasizing the risks posed by the Israeli airstrikes.
She called Israel’s actions “unprovoked aggression” and dismissed Tel Aviv’s justification—that the attacks were aimed at preventing nuclear proliferation—as “outright cynicism.”
The Russian official urged Israel to halt its attacks immediately and warned the United States against any military involvement, cautioning that such a move could lead to “unpredictable and dangerous consequences.”
This statement comes amid a sharp escalation of hostilities between Iran and Israel following Israel’s recent airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear sites, military facilities, and senior scientists. Iran, which maintains its nuclear program is peaceful, has retaliated with missile and drone attacks on Israeli targets.
According to Iran’s Health Ministry, over 220 people have been killed and at least 1,800 injured in the conflict, while the Iranian ambassador to Russia claims the civilian death toll approaches 300.
Israel has reported more than 20 deaths and around 800 injuries.
Despite international calls for de-escalation, tensions between the two countries remain high, with no immediate resolution in sight.
