Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has reaffirmed the government's commitment to decentralizing sports activities across Bangladesh to ensure greater access and opportunity for youth in all regions.
Speaking at the closing and award ceremony of the National Gold Cup Football Tournament 2024 (Under-17) held at the National Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday, Asif said the Ministry of Youth and Sports is actively working to decentralize all major sports, including football and cricket.
"The Ministry of Youth and Sports is working actively to decentralize all sports, including football and cricket, ensuring that opportunities and facilities reach all regions of the country," he said.
Asif, who also serves as Adviser for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, highlighted the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) ongoing efforts to promote regional cricket and noted that the Bangladesh Football Federation is expected to initiate similar steps for football development.
He also announced plans to expand international-standard sports infrastructure across the country. "We are working to expand the number of venues capable of hosting international matches. Hopefully, this year we will be able to organize an international football match in Nilphamari and international cricket matches in Rajshahi and Khulna."
“These steps will bring true decentralization to sports. We want to prove this through practical implementation with the cooperation and participation of all,” the adviser added.
