Three teenagers were killed after being hit by a train in Mirsharai upazila of Chattogram on Thursday night, while two of their friends narrowly escaped with minor injuries.
The dead were identified as Arafat Hossain, 18, Anis, 18, and Riaz, 18, all residents of Madhyam Sonapahar village under Jorarganj union.
According to Shahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Government Railway Police (GRP) Station in Chattogram, five friends were sitting and chatting on the rail tracks in the Madhyam Sonapahar area around 8pm. At that time, a Dhaka-bound train hit them.
Arafat, Anis, and Riaz died on the spot.
The remaining two managed to escape with minor scrapes, the OC said.
Police are currently investigating the accident to determine how the teenagers failed to notice the oncoming train in time. Further details will be released following the investigation, Shahidul added.
