Two nabbed with firearms in Satkhira

SATKHIRA, June 18: Two people including an Indian citizen were detained by the joint forces along with firearms and drugs in Debhata Upazila of the district on Monday night.

The arrestees were sent to jail on Tuesday afternoon following a court order.

The arrested persons are: Delwar Hossain Shaon, son of Awami League (AL) leader Asadul Islam of the upazila, and Kamanur Gazi, a resident of Panitor Village in Basirhat in North 24 Pargana District of West Bengal in India.

According to locals, a team led by Lieutenant Kadir of Kaliganj Army Camp conducted a drive in the house of Delwar in Kulia Village at night, and arrested them along with a 16-inch-long pipe gun, various locally-made weapons and 791 yaba tablets.

The arrested were, later, handed over to Debhata Police Station.

Officer-in-Charge of Debhata Police Station Md Golam Kibria confirmed the matter.
