The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized various types of smuggled goods worth over Tk 133.11 crore from the border areas and other places of the country in May last, said an official release of the paramilitary force.
The seized contraband includes 1.512kg of gold, 10,544 pieces of saris, 5,140 three-piece/shirt piece/chadar/blanket, 3,472 ready-made garments, 19,314 meters of cloth pieces, 2,52,029 cosmetics, 5,443 imitation jewellery, 2,471,551 fireworks, 17,523 cubic feet of wood, 3,151kg of tea leaf, 92,487 kg of betel nut, 53,040 kg of sugar, 20,442kg of fertiliser, 29,985kg of coal, 100kg of yarn/current net, 341 mobiles, 17,065 mobile displays, 6,540 electronic items, 15,112 glasses, 6,543kg of various fruits, 5,960kg of edible oil, 1,010 liters of diesel/octane, 1,526kg onion, 8.826kg garlic, 20,642kg cumin, 11,236 packets of various seeds, 50.191kg fuchka, 9,179kg fish, 50,603 pieces of shrimp fry, 934kg coffee, 2,25,343 pieces of chocolate, 1,131 cows and buffaloes, four stone statues, 13 truck or covered vans and 15 pickups, four private cars and microbuses, 92 boats, 26 CNG and easy bikes, 72 motorcycles and 22 bicycles.

The seized weapons include two domestic pistols, five foreign pistols, two 9mm pistols, two shot/pipe guns, five magazines, four crude bombs, 24 bullets and one hand grenade.
A huge quantity of narcotics was also seized by the BGB last month. The seized drugs and narcotics include 620,966 pieces of Yaba tablets, 10 .935kg of heroin, 23 grams of crystal meth ice, 1.410kg of cocaine, 10,521 bottles of Phensedyl, 8,983 bottles of foreign liquor, 71.25 liters of local liquor, 813 bottles of canned beer, 1,914kg of marijuana, 2,29,602 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 30,115 narcotic tablets/injections, 54,347 bottles of Escafe syrup, five bottles of LSD, 20,493 Anegra/Senegra tablets, 737 MKDil/Cofidil and 683,604 pieces of various medicines and tablets.
