Pakistan shuts all borders with Iran indefinitely

Pakistan has indefinitely closed all border crossings with neighboring Iran, suspending movement across five key districts in its Balochistan province.

The move was confirmed by senior provincial officials and comes amid ongoing regional security challenges.

According to Al Jazeera, Qadir Bakhsh Pirkaani, a senior official in Balochistan, stated that border activities in Chagai, Washuk, Panjgur, Kech, and Gwadar—all districts sharing borders with Iran—have been halted until further notice.

Confirming the development, Ataul Munim, an official at a Chagai border checkpoint, said no one will be allowed to enter Iran until new instructions are issued. However, he clarified that commercial trade operations remain unaffected, and Pakistanis currently in Iran will be allowed to return without any restrictions.

Munim added that around 200 Pakistani students are scheduled to return home from Iran on Monday, under the current repatriation arrangements.

While no official reason has been cited for the closure, the suspension of border activities is seen as a precautionary measure, possibly tied to rising tensions and cross-border security threats in the region.
