Police recovered the body of a 27-year-old housewife from a rented apartment in the capital’s Uttar Badda area on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Sumi Akter, daughter of Md Hanif Hawlader and Mahinur Begum of Dumki upazila in Patuakhali.
Confirming the matter, Badda Police Station sub-inspector Fatema Siddika Soma said that they recovered the body around 10:45 PM from a second-floor flat after being informed by locals.
She had been living in the flat for the last three to four months, she added.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Sumi might have been strangled to death, the officer said.
The actual cause of death will be known once the autopsy report is available, said SI Soma.
According to the house owner, Sumi’s husband used to visit the flat occasionally and he often heard the couple quarreling.
Family members alleged that Sumi was murdered by her husband who has remained missing since the incident.
After completing legal formalities, the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for post-mortem.
