The Chattogram Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) on Sunday night arrested four members of gang of thieves along with 51 rolls of cloth from Halishahar in the city.
The arrested were identified as Md. Akbar Ali, 26, Md Shahidul Islam Jibon, 27, Md Abdul Karim Hridoy, 27, and Md Hasan, 26.
DB sources said that a covered van numbered Chittagong Metro-T 11-7281 was kept in a garage in Halishahar Boropole area on June 6. It had 220 rolls of cloth. The driver had gone home on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
When he returned on June 8, he found the lock of the rear door of the vehicle broken. The owner came and counted the rolls and found 51 rolls missing.
After analyzing the data, the Detective Branch (DB) Police identified the location of the gang.
During the initial interrogation, the accused said in the initial interrogation that they have been active members of a gang of thieves centered around Chittagong Port for a long time. Taking advantage of the opportunity during the transportation of imported goods, they steal goods from the consignment, store them in various warehouses and sell them to unscrupulous traders.
Meanwhile, the estimated market value of the stolen cloth rolls is TK 7 lakh 65 thousand.
Police said that legal proceedings are underway in this incident.
