The intelligence chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and two other generals were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Sunday, as hostilities between the two nations escalated sharply.
Israeli forces carried out renewed attacks on Tehran and several other Iranian cities for a third consecutive day. In response, Iran launched retaliatory strikes targeting Israeli positions.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran would halt its response only if Israel stops its attacks on Iranian territory.
According to Iranian reports, at least 224 people have been killed in the country since the Israeli strikes began. Israeli authorities have confirmed at least 13 deaths from the recent Iranian counterattacks.
Meanwhile, the ongoing conflict in Gaza continues to exact a heavy toll. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports at least 55,362 Palestinians killed and 128,741 injured since the war began. In Israel, 1,139 people were killed and more than 200 taken hostage during the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023.
