Leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami had alleged a targeted assault by local BNP members during a public relations and road rally in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj.

The incident occurred around 3pm on Saturday in the Gahardi area of Mahmudpur Union.

According to multiple eyewitness accounts and local sources, Jamaat activists were engaged in a scheduled public outreach programme when local BNP leaders arrived at the scene and attempted to obstruct the rally. What began as a verbal confrontation quickly escalated into a physical altercation leaving at least five Jamaat supporters injured, two of whom required hospitalization.

Former Ameer of the Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami unit Motahar Hossain squarely blamed BNP for the violence.

"BNP leaders and activists attacked a road rally held in the Gahardi Badsha Bari area during Jamaat's public relations. At least five people were injured in this. Two of them have been admitted to the hospital," he said naming BNP leaders Shahjahan Shikari and Yusuf Shikari as the principal instigators of the attack.
