Gana Forum Prez Montu dies at 80

Liberation War organiser and President of Gana Forum Mostafa Mohsin Montu passed away at 5:00pm on Sunday at Square Hospital in the Capital. He was 80.

Montu had been critically ill for the last two months and was on life support during his final hours, said party official Mohammad Ullah Madhu. His passing prompted tributes across the political spectrum, with BNP leaders Tarique Rahman and Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressing deep sorrow.
Beginning his political journey with Chhatra League, Montu served in key roles within the Awami League and was elected MP from Dhaka-3 in 1986. He left the party in 1992 and joined Gana Forum under Dr Kamal Hossain and later became its General Secretary and President.

A champion of dialogue-based democratic politics, Montu contested the 2018 national election from three constituencies. He leaves behind a legacy of principled leadership and lifelong dedication to inclusive and moderate politics.
