Former MP and political commentator Golam Maula Rony strongly criticized proponents of a so-called 'second revolution' calling their rhetoric hollow and dangerous without genuine ideological and social foundations.
"Is revolution a child's plaything that it will happen just by calling it?" Rony asked dismissing the movement as naive and perfunctory. He derided the self-proclaimed leaders as 'intellectuals whose teeth have fallen out from the pain of thinking' accusing them of stirring unrest without accountability or strategy.
Referring to post-August 5 developments, Rony said many opportunists have suddenly emerged claiming long-standing opposition to Sheikh Hasina. He criticized this revisionism and warned that seven months of elite-driven debates have eroded grassroots unity and endangered student activists.
Rony condemned the manipulation of young revolutionaries by older figures who knowingly misguide them. "The whole thing has become chaotic. Everything is in a mess," he said.
He argued the revolution's core ideals have been lost to endless argumentation and warned against simplistic calls for another uprising. "A second revolution is not magic or a chicken egg. It takes decades and even a century to build one in the minds and hearts of the people."
Citing the long wait since the 1989 uprising, Rony urged reflection rather than reckless agitation.
"We achieved revolution through sacrifice and now we are destroying it ourselves. Calling for a second revolution now is political suicide," he warned adding that only by rejecting misguidance and restoring unity can the movement survive.
