A case has been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her son and ICT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and 220 others over an alleged attempted murder during a student-led anti-discrimination protest in the capital on June 13.
The case, lodged by one Sohel Rana (38), accuses senior political figures, former ministers, cultural personalities, and law enforcement officials of orchestrating a violent crackdown on demonstrators. The complaint was filed with Mohammadpur Police Station on June 11 and subsequently placed before Metropolitan Magistrate Sefat Ullah's court on Friday.
According to the complaint, Sohel Rana sustained gunshot injuries during a protest on August 5 last year at Mohammadpur's 'Tin Rastar More', allegedly after police and ruling party affiliates opened fire on demonstrators following instructions from senior government leaders. The plaintiff claims he was hospitalized for an extended period, which delayed the filing of the case.
Prominent accused include former ministers Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Anisul Huq, Salman F Rahman, Hasanul Haq Inu, Rashed Khan Menon, and Dipu Moni; cultural figures like singer and MP Momtaz Begum and actress Shomi Kaiser; and former Detective Branch chief Harun-or-Rashid.
The court has directed authorities to investigate the matter and submit a report by July 20.
