Police recovered the body of a woman from a hostel room in the Nilkhet area near Dhaka’s New Market on Sunday.
The deceased, Riya Akter Shanta, 30, daughter of Jahangir Hossain, a resident of Palashpur village in Barishal, was an official of a private bank in the capital.
Quoting locals, New Market Police Station sub-inspector Hossain Mobarak said that Riya used reside in a room of the female hostel. A team of police, being informed, went to the spot and found the room of Riya locked from inside. Police later entered the room after breaking open the door and found her hanging.
Her body was later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination, the police official said.
She might have committed suicide, the SI suspected.
The main reason behind her committing suicide could be known after getting the post-mortem report.
