Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a large cache of narcotics worth nearly Tk 10 lakh from Hili border in Dinajpur early Sunday.
The seizure included 6,360 Indian injection ampoules and 86 bottles of Phensedyl.
No suspects have so far been arrested in this connection, BGB officials said.
According to Subedar Aseem Marak, Company Commander of BGB’s Hili CP Camp, the operation was launched based on a tip-off about an attempted drug smuggling from India. A patrol team took position near border pillar 285/7-S, close to the railway station, and intercepted the smugglers as they tried to enter Bangladesh.
Sensing presence of the BGB personnel, the traffickers fled the scene, leaving behind several sacks filled with narcotics.
The total value of the seized drugs is estimated at Tk 988,400.
BGB has intensified surveillance along the border in response to rising smuggling attempts in the region.
