After Eid-ul-Azha vacation, supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain and the Dhaka City South Corporation (DSCC) employee unions again took position in front Nagar Bhaban on Sunday.

From the morning, Ishraque's supporters gathered at Nagar Bhaban to hold protest demanding that Ishraque be given the mayoral responsibilities of the DSCC.

Later around 11AM, Ishraque Hossain entered the Nagar Bhaban and announced to continue the protest.
He said, "I urge the government to resolve this issue soon. The protest will continue until this problem is resolved. But he ensured that the public services will be provided."

After addressing his supporters, he held a meeting with a small group of DSCC officials and employees at Nagar Bhaban.

Though government offices reopened on Sunday after a 10-day Eid holiday, Nagar Bhaban remained locked. From early morning, members of the DSCC employee unions were seen gathering in front of the building, chanting slogans calling for Ishraque to be handed the mayoral duties.

Due to the protest, DSCC officials and staff have been unable to enter their offices, disrupting normal administrative services.

The most recent DSCC election was held on February 1, 2020.

Awami League candidate Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh defeated BNP's Ishraque, son of former Dhaka mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, by nearly 200,000 votes in the polls.

Following the change in government, the Dhaka Election Tribunal on March 27 annulled the 2020 results and declared Ishraque the rightful mayor.
